A visible low-water alert and automatic empty-tank shutoff solve different problems. Levoit LV600S is a documented humidifier to inspect for its display and refill indications. Vicks VUL520 documents empty-tank shutoff, but that feature alone should not be described as an advance low-water warning.

Decide what you want to know

Do you need to see that the tank is nearly empty, learn that operation has stopped, or receive a remote notification? Check each requirement in the exact manual. A seller’s “auto-off” badge does not establish all three.

Evaluate the display where the unit will stand

Check viewing angle, text size and whether a lamp or daylight makes the indication hard to see. At night, confirm how display-off or sleep settings affect warnings. Do not assume a dimmed display retains every visual alert.

LV600S is worth comparing when display and automatic controls are priorities. VUL520 is a simpler cool-mist option when manual inspection and empty-tank shutoff are enough. Choose the latter knowingly rather than paying for a feature it has not been shown to provide.

Plan a refill that does not interrupt the room

Measure water use at your normal setting over a few sessions. Keep a routine check before the period when you need the appliance. An empty-tank warning can prevent a surprise shutdown from going unnoticed, but it cannot fill the reservoir or clean it.

Position the unit so you can reach it safely and follow its refill instructions. Do not pour water into an operating electrical base unless the exact instructions permit that filling method. If it repeatedly reports empty with water present, follow troubleshooting or contact support rather than bypassing the sensor.

Check the model before checkout
