Filter-free means there is no routine evaporative wick to replace; it does not mean maintenance-free. Levoit LV600HH and Vicks VUL520 are documented filter-free options. Honeywell HCM350 uses the HAC504 wick and does not belong in a no-replacement-filter shortlist.

Compare the two actual options

LV600HH offers warm and cool mist with humidity control. VUL520 is a smaller cool-mist model with simpler controls and empty-tank shutoff. Choose the functions and physical arrangement you need rather than assuming every filter-free machine has automatic humidity regulation.

What costs remain?

Include the water recommended by the maker, cleaning supplies and any optional accessories you actually plan to use. A demineralization accessory or aroma pad is not evidence of a required evaporative wick, but neither should its cost be hidden if it is part of your routine.

Calculate running cost with the selected operating mode. A warm-mist heater and cool-mist operation can have different electricity requirements; use the exact rated power and actual hours instead of a single claimed monthly bill.

Cleaning is the deciding workload

Read the cleaning procedure before buying. Can you reach the reservoir and components it names? Can you drain, rinse and dry them without wetting electrical parts? Choose a design you can maintain consistently.

Follow descaling and disinfecting as separate steps where specified. Do not mix cleaning chemicals or invent a stronger concentration. Visible cleanliness is useful, but it does not establish that water is sterile.

When a wick model can still be the better choice

Avoiding replacement filters may be your preference, but it should not override room fit or water conditions.
